FormulaHound arose from the experience of seeing college students struggling to write math formulas into their shared electronic documents. Subscripts, superscripts, square root symbols...students were struggling with formatting when they should have been focusing on the content. The idea for FormulaHound was born. No fuss, just formulas.
Math can be difficult, especially writing math formulas in an electronic document. Students can learn LaTeX and use an online editor to make math documents, but real time collaboration is a challenge for most of those tools, and LaTeX takes time to learn. Google Docs and Microsoft Word have functions to insert formulas, but they are not super easy to use, especially for a less than expert user. The result is hard-to-read formulas typed in plain text, which are difficult to understand and less than pleasing to look at. Even more frustrating for the user, these math formulas were often just a small part of the overall document (such as in economics or statistics classes). Time was being wasted. FormulaHound allows a user to intuitively create beatutiful math formulas in the browser, then take a screenshot and paste the formula into their Word or Google Doc easily and quickly. And if they prefer, FormulaHound converts their formula to LaTeX as well.
